Council President awarded NRF’s Lifetime Achievement Award

News, The Council 1

The Ohio Council of Retail Merchants is proud to share some exciting news regarding our beloved President, John C. Mahaney, Jr., and his continued success. During a special, members-only luncheon on Tuesday at Retail’s BIG Show, inNew York City, the National Retail Federation took time to honor Mr. Mahaney for his leadership to the retail industry spanning over 60 years.

Mr. Mahaney, known affectionately as “Chief” was awarded NRF’s J. Thomas Weyant Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifelong commitment to the industry as a state retail association professional.  Despite Chief’s ground-breaking work on behalf of the retail industry, his greatest pride is found within the accomplished group of alumni that he has helped mold throughout his years leading the Council- one being NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay.

This video above was presented at the members-only luncheon.

  1. John Van Doorn says:

For all the Chief has done to promote sound public policy for the State of Ohio, to advance the retail industry in the state, and of course, to nurture the careers of so many of us in the field of public affairs, this tribute is very well-deserved. But the award should truly be named the “John C. Mahaney, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award.” His remarkable career and the impact he has had on all of us is unparalleled. Thanks, Chief, for being an outstanding leader, a great mentor, and a loyal friend.
