Merchants Applaud Governor’s Workers’ Compensation Refund and Reform;

“Today is Rare, Remarkable Day in Ohio History”

(Columbus, May 2, 2013) The Ohio Council of Retail Merchants supports Governor John Kasich’s actions today to create premium refunds and workplace reform at the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

“Today is a rare, remarkable day in Ohio history,” said Council Executive Vice President Gordon Gough.  “I have never heard of any other Ohio governor tripling workplace safety programs and refunding $1 billion in premiums in the same day.

“Kasich’s initiative increases on-the-job safety for Ohio workers and reduces financial burdens on small businesses which are the jobs engine of Ohio’s economy,” said Gough.

“The Governor’s actions reflect his continued emphasis at every level of state government to help Ohio families and businesses,” Gough concluded.

Founded in 1922, the Ohio Council of Retail Merchants is Ohio’s leading trade association for the retail industry, with more than 4,400 members statewide including large retailers and department stores, jewelers, tire and automotive stores and convenience stores that serve millions of Ohioans daily.
