Overall, the BWC wants to make sure that you, as the employer, are reporting the same amounts of payroll to the State of Ohio for taxes as you are to the BWC for your workers’ comp premium payments. Plus, they want to make sure the NCCI Manual Classifications are appropriate for your business and that you are correctly reporting payroll under the appropriate Manual Classification.
First, you will need to complete a Pre-Audit Questionnaire for the BWC. Then, you will need to prepare information and documents (mainly payroll, Ohio Dept JFS info, tax returns, etc.) for the Auditor to review during his or her visit to your company. Expect the Auditor to take anywhere from a couple of hours to a few days to complete their BWC review of your information.
