True Up Process

Employers must file a payroll true-up report at the end of their workers’ compensation policy period. This allows you to reconcile your estimated payroll with your actual payroll. This payroll reconciliation may result in either an additional premium billing or a premium credit. Any additional premium billed is due at the time you complete the payroll true-up report.  Private employers will receive payroll true-up notices every July, and they must submit their report to BWC and pay, if necessary, by the following Aug. 15.  Public employer taxing districts will receive payroll true-up notices every January, and they must submit their report to BWC and pay, if necessary, by the following Feb. 15. While BWC will not lapse employers who do not submit their payroll true-up reports on time, we will immediately disqualify them from all discount and rating programs for that policy year. They must submit all outstanding payroll true-ups before we will reinstate their eligibility.
